A wooden doll house is something that my mother had when she was a child.
We see it every time we go to grandma's house. It looked old a few years ago when I was playing with it so I asked if I could fix it.
I asked my grandmother who sent me to my mother.
I asked and pleaded and she finally agreed.
Before we left my father loaded it up in the trunk of the car so I could work on it at home.
There was no need to do any major repairs, just a few nails here and a touch of putty there. I thought it would be easy.
This is the best thing about a doll house made of wood, it can never ware out.
Once we arrived at home and unloaded it, I began to take a closer look at it.
The paint was still there but was peeling in places. This I found out was the reason my mother tried to discourage me from refurbishing it.
My father said he would help me with the few nails that it needed and he did.
But now was the job of scraping and sanding the entire doll house.
It had been 30 years since this house had a coat of paint so it was overdue.
Just like a big house, it is made out of wood and needs to be painted, so I began the task. I scraped and scraped for days until finally my father told me it was done. Then with a little fine sanding it was ready for painting.
Once the painting was done the wooden doll house was good as new.
This is the advantage of using wood, it never wears out.
